Long-term observations of daily currents measured by DVS at SAMBA Mooring 8 (October 2018 - October 2020)

Here we present processed magnitude and direction of daily currents in the water column from a Doppler Volume Sampler (DVS) located at a depth of 1227m at M8 (34.4792°S; 17.3403°E) along the South Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation (MOC) Basin-scale Array (SAMBA) transect in the Cape Basin region of the South Atlantic Ocean, between 11 October 2018 and 03 October 2020. The South African component of the international South Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation project (SAMOC-SA) aims to characterise the time-mean and time-varying components of the SAMOC in the South Atlantic Ocean and monitor the variability of the main Southern Ocean frontal systems associated with the Antarctic Circumpolar Current (ACC), south of Africa.
